The July 4th issue

The July 4th issue of New York Magazine arrived today and it mentions Uma Thurman “knitting a sweater during her son Levon’s first visit to the barber.”
(I believe this bit first appeared on Page Six of the New York Post.)

Knitting in Plain English

Knitting in Plain English by Maggie Righetti
This is by far one of the best books on knitting. Righetti writes about everything, from the various ways to cast on and increase/decrease to how the loops of yarn should slope on the needle (front forward).
Stitch ‘N Bitch by Debbie Stoller
The next book a knitter should have on the shelf. Workman Publishing did a great job with Stoller in getting a knitting book out there that has everything. It is well written, fun to read and has clearly written instructions on knitting basics and patterns.
Hollywood Knits Style by Suss Cousins
Focuses on the knitting experience. Great pictures, includes recipes. Reads like an event planner’s guide…..all the events (mother/daughter gatherings, groups, charity events, etc.) based around knitting. This book got me excited to start something in my community with knitting as a focus.
Knitting School, The Big Book of Knitting, both by Sterling. My boyfriend bought these for me – they are big books with colorful pictures and clear instructions.
